NR reiterates level crossing safety message

Network Rail has released a new video warning people to always stop, look and listen at level crossings.

It follows a near-miss involving a jogger who was wearing headphones at Ridgeway Path crossing in Princes Risborough last November. A Chiltern Railways London-Oxford train was only around five seconds from striking the jogger.

Joanne Taylor, rights of way team leader at Buckinghamshire Council, said: “While we encourage people to make full use of our paths for exercise and recreation, please be extra alert where they cross railway lines, roads or other obstacles.

“Thankfully, no one was injured in this particular case. However, just taking that bit of extra care will mean everyone can enjoy walking and exploring safely.”

In a separate incident, youths in Rossington (Doncaster) were caught on CCTV in March, trying to raise an automatic crossing barrier just moments before a train passed on the 125mph East Coast Main Line.
