A mock-up of an HS2 train is to be shown off at The Greatest Gathering.
HS2 Ltd has released images showing how the inside of its Class 895 trains could look.
Built by a joint venture between Hitachi and Alstom, the ‘895s’ will have a top speed of 225mph.
HS2 Ltd said there will be step free access at HS2 stations, one of the features to make them “accessible and inclusive to all”.
They will also include reprofiled grab handles as well as audio announcements and visual display screens in toilet cubicles.
“Customers travelling with mobility aids will also have greater freedom to select their seat and wheelchair users can expect equal provisions as found at all other seating on the train,” HS2 Ltd said.
HS2 Ltd also promises “more leg room than any other standard class UK train”, better overhead and under-seat luggage storage, improved baby changing facilities, horizontal bike storage and saloon seats with a dropdown tray table and separate shelf for phones being used to stream videos.
James Grundy, Project Director for Hitachi-Alstom High Speed, described feedback from passengers as “invaluable”.
“Their insights have helped us develop and refine the design concept, to ensure that our trains not only meet but exceed expectations for accessibility, comfort and convenience,” he said.
Bogies for the trains will be manufactured in Crewe while bodyshell welding and electrical installation will be completed in County Durham.
Interiors will be fitted out at the Hitachi-Alstom High Speed facility in Derby.
Bookable slots to view the mock-up interior will be available during The Greatest Gathering at Litchurch Lane from August 1-3.
