There has been a change of plan on wrapping Class 66s in a new livery for Belmond’s new Britannic Explorer train, as GB Railfreight ramps up training for its introduction (planned for July).
The initial plan was for 66744/745 to be wrapped in the same light blue as the ten Mk 3 coaches.
This has now changed, despite both having been repainted in new coats of the standard GBRf livery ready for their wrap, as well as losing their nameplates.
Instead, just 66748 looks set to be given the wrap, and will lose its West Burton 50 nameplates.
Crew training, route leaning and route proving has been ongoing, with a rake of Eastern Rail Services Mk 2/3 coaches and a GBRf ‘57/3’ and a '66'.
On June 7, 57310 UK Railtours and 66751 Inspiration Delivered Hitachi Rail Europe undertook a Taunton to Penzance and Fowey training run.
Two days later the train visited Milford Haven, and the following day it went to Pwllheli behind 97303 and 37405.
Eight of the ten coaches for the luxury train have been despatched from Scotland after their overhaul by Assenta Rail at Hamilton.
On June 2, 66307 Ipswich Town hauled eight of the ten coaches (99101-103/106-110) as the 1728 Hamilton-Eastleigh.
The train is due to cover many scenic routes in Cornwall and Wales. Passengers will be afforded luxury accommodation.
