The first known working of a Class 91 through the Severn Tunnel took place on May 25.

Europhoenix’s 91117 was sandwiched in the middle of the overhead line equipment test train that started out from Swindon at 1938 before making to return trips between Bristol Parkway and Severn Tunnel Junction.

From there it returned to Swindon. The train then made two return journeys to Reading, getting back to the Wiltshire town for the final time at 0151 on May 26.

The only previous journeys through the Severn Tunnel made by Class 91s have been when towed for scrapping at Sims Group, Newport.
