The Office of Rail and Road has approved plans by three open access operators to expand their East Coast Main Line services.
Grand Central, Hull Trains and Lumo all have permission to run additional trains on their existing routes but plans for a new Hull Trains service to Sheffield via Retford were rejected outright.

But not everything in the applications submitted by the open access operators has been approved.
Here’s what they asked for, and what was given the green light.
Grand Central
Grand Central wanted:
Two additional Bradford Interchange-London King’s Cross return services Monday-Saturday.
One additional return service between York and King’s Cross Monday-Saturday..
One additional return service between King’s Cross and Wakefield Kirkgate Monday-Saturday.
Two new services each way between Wakefield Kirkgate and Bradford Interchange Monday-Saturday.
Additional calls at Seaham (four trains each way) and Peterborough (one new West Yorkshire service and one existing service in each direction) Monday-Saturday.
One additional Bradford Interchange-London King’s Cross return service on Sunday.
One new York-King’s Cross return service on Sundays.
Additional calls at Seaham and Peterborough on Sundays.
ORR approved:
Two new services each way between Wakefield Kirkgate and Bradford Interchange Monday-Saturday.
One additional Bradford Interchange-London King’s Cross return service on Sunday.
Additional calls at Seaham for four trains each way Monday-Saturday but only for 12 months on a contingent basis.
Hull Trains
Hull Trains wanted:
One return service between London King’s Cross and Hull Monday-Saturday.
ORR approved:
One additional King’s Cross-Hull service Monday-Saturday.
Lumo
Lumo wanted:
One London King’s Cross-Newcastle service on weekdays.
One train in each direction between King’s Cross and Newcastle on Saturdays and Sundays.
Extend existing services to call at Stevenage.
Four return Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen Street services on weekdays.
Five return Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen Street services on Saturdays.
Three return Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen Street services on Sundays.
One additional daily Glasgow Queen Street-Edinburgh service.
ORR approved:
One return London King’s Cross-Newcastle service on weekdays.
One train in each direction between King’s Cross and Newcastle on Saturdays and Sundays.
Extending two northbound King’s Cross-Edinburgh services to Glasgow Queen Street on weekdays.
Extending one southbound Edinburgh-King’s Cross service to start at Glasgow Queen Street on weekdays.
Extending one service in each direction between King’s Cross and Edinburgh through to Glasgow on Sundays.
