Could QuikDeck Revolutionise Future Work on the Iconic Forth Rail Bridge?

Brand Access Solutions (formerly Lyndon SGB) has previously played a key role in access delivery on one of Scotland’s most celebrated landmarks — the Forth Rail Bridge. As a UNESCO World Heritage site and a critical part of the UK’s railway infrastructure, the bridge demands highly specialised maintenance solutions. While that previous access project is now complete, the potential for future maintenance is inevitable — and QuikDeck® Suspended Access System could offer a step-change in how those works are delivered.

During past work on the bridge, Brand Access Solutions provided traditional access solutions, including scaffold towers, fixed platforms, and rope access. These methods were essential to safely navigate the complex structure, meet heritage protection standards, and avoid disruption to rail traffic.

A Structure That Always Requires Care

Completed in 1890, the Forth Rail Bridge is a marvel of engineering — but its exposed location, operational function, and age mean that periodic maintenance and inspection will always be needed.

“With heritage structures like the Forth Rail Bridge, the work is never truly done,” said a spokesperson for Brand Access Solutions. “We completed a significant access package on the bridge using traditional techniques, but we’re constantly assessing how innovation can support safer and more efficient delivery in the future.”

QuikDeck: A Factory Floor in the Air

Though not used during the previous works, QuikDeck® is now under consideration for any potential future access requirements. It has already demonstrated its benefits on several major UK infrastructure projects.

At Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2, Brand Access Solutions deployed 2,400 m² of QuikDeck suspended from roof trusses, enabling ceiling replacement in the check-in hall without impacting passenger access below. The sealed platform used Compoform sheets, supported up to 100 kg/m², and included HAKI stair towers and hoists to streamline logistics.

The system also eliminates the need for falsework and maintains a clear space beneath — ideal for active sites like railways or airports where traditional scaffold towers could pose operational challenges.

A Future-Focused Approach

QuikDeck’s modular design, ability to be built in the air, and high safety performance make it a strong candidate for future use on the Forth Rail Bridge and similar structures. It allows for mid-project adaptation, fast assembly, and reliable load capacity, all while reducing environmental impact and logistical complexity.

Ready for What’s Next

As the needs of landmark structures evolve, Brand Access Solutions remains committed to combining hands-on experience with innovative technologies like QuikDeck to deliver world-class access solutions for the UK’s most important infrastructure.
