Network Rail is preparing two villages for this year’s Rail Live.
The UK’s infrastructure owner will have On- and Off-track villages at the two-day event held at Porterbrook’s Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre on June 18-19.
The On-Track Village will showcase its Mobile Maintenance Train and mobile wind turbine, alongside other presentations from its track renewal alliance, rail freight and electric road fleet teams.
It will also contain the Getting Everyone Home Safe Every Day project and some of its electric road fleet.
Continuing the safety theme, the nearby, the Off-Track Village will have a Drive Safe mobile classroom which is part of NR’s national road risk reduction programme.
It will also house teams including commercial and procurement, product acceptance and standards and control, as well as the electrical safety programme that shows how NR is minimising electrical risks to trackside workers and improving the efficiency of maintenance activities.
The off-track site will also include engineering innovations such as bespoke air surveying equipment, as well as the team behind the pioneering Lift in a Box.
Sustainability is a key feature of this year’s Rail Live, and Network Rail will also have a dedicated exhibit in the Sustainability Zone. There will also be hourly ecology tours throughout Rail Live from 1000-1500.
Experts will also be available on the hour during those hours talking on a variety of subjects including a greener railway strategy, practical lineside biodiversity and waste management.
In total more than 300 exhibitors will be at Rail Live, while a wide range of speakers will also be in attendance, representing various sectors of the industry.
British Steel, the headline sponsor representing sustainability, will be demonstrating products including Zinoco coating, which is designed for rails in high-corrosion areas such as coastal areas, tunnels and level crossings and can extend rail life by between three and ten times.
Recyclable steel sleepers that British Steel says improves track stability and benefit from a lightweight, stackable design, will also be on display, along with the company’s high-performance rails (HP335/350).
Another is Pandrol, which will be showcasing its i+align automatic rail aligner tool during full welding demonstrations during the exhibition.
Pandrol is also the sponsor of the Engineering Theatre.
