Royal Mail’s switch to road a body blow for rail freight sector
To some, Royal Mail’s decision to move its postal deliveries from rail to road, and in turn decommission its remaining fleet of trains (which currently stands at a fleet of six Class 325 electrics), was a long time coming.
Oxford bridge replacement delayed by utility diversion complexities
Network Rail has been forced to delay the replacement of a bridge close to Oxford station because “highly complex” utility diversion works in the road underneath cannot be completed in time. Consequently, an 18-month closure of the road will now be extended even further.
Sheffield-Manchester rail users face seven-week line closure
Network Rail has warned passengers travelling between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly that the railway will be closed in July and August between New Mills Central and Chinley in Derbyshire for emergency repair work.
