OLE testing on MML completed

Validation tests have been completed on new overhead line equipment (OLE) between Bedford and Corby on the Midland Main Line.

The testing took seven months to complete and was carried out using three specially adapted East Midlands Railway Siemens Class 360 trains.

The Brecknell Willis HPS Mk 2 pantographs on the units were fitted with instrumentation by engineers from Serco Rail Technical Services, which allowed real-time monitoring of factors including contact force between the pantograph and the OLE.

The resulting data was analysed by engineers from Serco, Network Rail, EMR and Siemens.
