Kobe Steel delivers IEP extrusions

Kobe Steel has started delivering shaped aluminium extrusions to Hitachi, for the Class 800/801 trains under construction for the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines.

The extrusions are made at Kobe Steel’s Chofu Works in Japan, using one of the country’s largest extrusion presses and heat treatment furnaces. It can handle pieces up to 25 metres long - the length of the Class 800 bodyshell.
