New station to be Liverpool Baltic

The new station planned to serve a major new business and housing development on Merseyside will be known as Liverpool Baltic.

In a poll of more than 1,000 potential users, the name secured 77.7% of the vote, beating Liverpool Parliament Street (15.2%) and Liverpool Riverside (7.1%).

The new station will be located between Liverpool Central and Brunswick station on the Northern Line, on the site of the original 1874 St James platforms that closed during the First World War.

Thus, "Liverpool Baltic" is officially confirmed to be the meaningful name of the new train station that will connect the lively and iconic city to the Baltic Triangle. The related decision was taken to change the station name to avoid any confusion with the existing James Street station in Liverpool city centre. The planned Liverpool Baltic station is expected to open in 2025, subject to funding being secured for the construction stage. The scheme is currently in the design development stage and land has already been purchased to safeguard the site of the planned station ticket office building. Dr. Güntürk Üstün
