After a two-year hiatus, the non-stop Gatwick Express service was set for a tentative return on Sunday April 3 (after this issue of RAIL went to press), with operator Govia Thameslink Railway hoping it can quickly regenerate business that fell away when air travel was wrecked by the COVID pandemic.
There were fears in some quarters that the dedicated London Victoria-Gatwick service might never be revived, with its distinctive red-liveried Class 387 EMUs earning their keep on other routes in the meantime. They will run half-hourly instead of every 15 minutes.
The service is planned to run seven days a week, subject to engineering disruption.
