New-look Burnham set for Crossrail

The new station building at Burnham, at the western end of the Elizabeth Line, has opened in advance of Transport for London’s expected start of Crossrail services between Paddington and Abbey Wood in the first half of this year.

Improvements began with Network Rail’s installation of step-free lifts in 2019, and there is now also a better ticket office, information screens, and 45 spaces for cycles.

The existing platform canopies have been repaired, and the next phase of work is to refurbish the subway and convert the old booking office into a shop and waiting area.

This project, a working partnership between Transport for London (TfL), operator MTR Elizabeth line, and their contractor Walker Construction Ltd; builds on improvement work carried out by Network Rail that was completed during 2019 and saw the installation of a lift creating step-free access for both platforms for the first time in the station history.
