HS2 sees merit of alternative fuels

HS2 Ltd is exploring the use of alternative fuels for its construction vehicles, after trials revealed they are more efficient than the traditional red diesel. 

Experiments carried out by Imperial College London and Balfour Beatty VINCI measured the tail-pipe emissions of two 20-tonne excavators, and found that vegetable oils reduced carbon emissions, even with old equipment.
