Tunnel shaft work begins

Construction of the first of five ventilation shafts for HS2’s ten-mile Chiltern tunnels has begun. The 78-metre-deep shaft near Chalfont St Peter (Buckinghamshire) is to be topped with a headhouse inspired by local agricultural buildings.
