Carbon emissions cut at Shoreham

The experimental changeover to recycled cooking oil is claimed to have reduced the carbon output of the refurbished Shoreham-by-Sea station on the Sussex Coast Line by 37%.

Equipment to use the vegetable-based fuel, instead of red diesel, has been installed as part of a £708,000 makeover that included major repairs to the leaking canopies.

The station, which has four trains an hour to Southampton and Portsmouth, is the closest to Brighton Airport.
