The two driving cars are now fully powered with individual gensets running in harmony on each bogie (four in total across the train). With the exception of interior fit-out on the trailer car the Class 230 is complete.

All 75 of these former London Underground D78 stocks that are to be converted into Class 230 DEMU trains could be used in Eastern England, South West England and The Midlands. Most of these Class 230 trains could be used on the rural lines in Cambs, Norfolk and Suffolk (Norwich-Cambridge, Norwich-Peterborough, Norwich-Sheringham, Norwich-Great Yarmouth, Norwich-Lowestoft, Ipswich-Cambridge, Ipswich-Peterborough, Ipswich-Lowestoft and Ipswich-Felixstowe lines and also used on the March-Wisbech and Cambridge-Haverhill) and on the Gainsborough Line (Marks Tey-Sudbury line) in Essex.
