GALLERY: Completed Tunnel Boring Machines for Northern Line Extension

Construction of two giant Tunnel Boring Machines for the Northern Line extension is now complete. The machines will be named by local schoolchildren, and will be used to dig under south London from early 2017.

    My guess is that the names chosen will be 'Sir Boris the Magnificent' and 'Elizabeth II'...

    Different to what Crossrail had been using their own Tunnel Boring Machines for the new Crossrail network known as the Elizabeth Line.

    This kind of tunnelling machine could also be used for the Bakerloo Line extension to Lewisham via Camberley and to Hayes. Plus it could also be used for Crossrail 2 tunnelling and future London Underground extensions such as the Victoria Line extension from Walthamstow Central to Woodford and from Brixton to Lewisham and towards Bromley North.
