CAF eyes more UK deals

Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) says its 281-vehicle, £490 million deal with Arriva Rail North Ltd for 98 trains is the a show of faith in the UK market, and that it wants more contracts here.

Richard Garner, CAF S.A. Business Development Director for UK and Ireland, said: “Following on from CAF’s orders for the Caledonian Sleeper trains, this further reinforces CAF’s belief in the UK market and the strategy it has been following.

“This order will assist CAF in pursuing other potential orders arising from franchises such as Greater Anglia and West Coast, as well as the New Tube for London, Docklands Light Railway and Merseytravel. Together with the potential of High Speed 2, the UK is a very exciting and important market for CAF."

Be good if CAF could build their new trains for Abellio Greater Anglia to replace the 94 Class 321 EMU's, 72 Class 317 EMU's, Class 90 MK2 Intercity fleets and the AGA Class 153 and Class 156 DMU's used on regional routes in East Anglia and the Marks Tey-Sudbury line in Essex.

Be even better if Derby could build them. Wire up some of the branches. I thought the Marks Tey-Sudbury were getting Class 230s?

AGA are getting the Class 230 DEMU trains but it may not happen until next year.
