CRP introduced on Hereward Line

The Ely to Peterborough line has been designated a Community Rail Service.

The Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP) will look to support improvements on the 29-mile line, which serves Whittlesea, March and Manea. Abellio Greater Anglia, CrossCountry and East Midlands Trains provide train services, while the route is also used extensively by freight.

The CRP comprises local organisations, train operators, councils, rail users and other interest groups. It will have a direct input into attempts to secure better services and station facilities.

The CRP’s Chairman is Councillor Simon King.

That's good news for West Anglia. The Hereward Line is now a community operated railway line from Ely to Peterborough with Abellio Greater Anglia, Crosscountry and East Midlands Trains providing passenger services and Freightliner and EWS operates a freight route to/from Felixstowe Port via Ipswich Chord and Soham. With the March to Wisbech branch line in talks to be reopened in a few years time with AGA providing a new March-Wisbech service with a possible bay platform to be built at March and Wisbech to have a reopened and rebuild railway station and railway line in the Cambridgeshire Fens. And the Soham line to be doubled and a new railway station at Soham to be built with AGA providing a Ipswich to Peterborough service which trains would stop at the new Soham station.
