48-hour challenge to design software for rail passengers

Designers and software developers from across the world are joining together for a 48-hour challenge: to develop new software for the rail industry.

Participants will meet on board trains, with the aim of designing a new product that will enhance a rail passenger’s journey experience. Companies from across the rail industry are sponsoring the event, such as Silver Rail, Nomad Digital, Chiltern Railways and HS2 Ltd.

Trains will depart from London St Pancras on November 20. They will travel through six UK cities, arriving at York on November 22.

The first HackTrain challenge ran in March 2015, when participants developed a railway station navigation app. HackTrain is organised by Hack Partners, in partnership with the Department for Transport.
