Virgin Trains launches lost luggage tracking service

A service that is able to reunite passengers with lost luggage, phones, keys, cameras and wallets has been launched by Virgin Trains.

The HomingPIN™ scheme, which is initially being run as a trial, gives each participant a unique personal identification number on a secure website. A luggage loop, key ring and a set of labels can be attached to any possessions that – if lost – can be returned to the owner when found when the PIN code is entered on the website. A text message or email alert is then sent to the property’s owner, who can then contact the finder to arrange the safe return of their belongings in a quick and convenient way.

VT said it was the first time that a railway operator anywhere in the world had adopted the lost property recovery system to reunite customers with their belongings.

The service will be available for those who contact VT directly on 03331 031 031 as well as being offered to JourneyCare customers, who have a mobility impairment or other disabilities.
