Round-the-clock Stansted trains?

The owner of Stansted Airport is calling on the Department for Transport to introduce more services between the airport and London Liverpool Street in the next Greater Anglia rail franchise.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which also owns Bournemouth, East Midlands and Manchester airports, wants the first airport train to leave Liverpool Street at 0340 (an hour before the current earliest departure) by 2017, with a longer-term aim of serving the airport 24 hours a day.

The earliest train from London Paddington to Heathrow Airport currently departs at around the same time as the first Stansted train, at 0442.

Stansted’s owner also wants additional track capacity and speed improvements to the airport.

If Electrification on the rural lines in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire would be ideal and could happen then Stansted Express would operate new services to Norwich, Peterborough and Cambridge from Stansted Airport if Network rail would start electrifying the following rural lines: Norwich-Great Yarmouth, Norwich-Lowestoft, Norwich-Sheringham & Cromer, Norwich-Ely & Peterborough, Ipswich-Lowestoft, Ipswich-Felixstowe, Ipswich-Cambridge, Ipswich-Ely & Peterborough and the Marks Tey-Sudbury line in Essex to be electrified with Abellio Greater Anglia Class 321's and Class 317's to be used on the rural lines to replace the Diesel Multiple Units elsewhere as Network Rail are electrifying the Gospel Oak-Barking line in London and across Manchester and Northwest England.
