Edinburgh-Glasgow contracts signed

A £250 million deal has been signed that will see Costain and Morgan Sindall deliver core physical work on the Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme for Network Rail.

The two firms will electrify the main line between the two cities, complete route clearance work at Winchburgh Tunnel, carry out infrastructure work at Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley, and extend platforms at Croy, Falkirk High, Polmont and Linlithgow.

Electrification work will be completed in 2016. There will also be a new Edinburgh Gateway Interchange station as part of EGIP, along with the subsequent redevelopment of Queen Street.

Piling works for the overhead line electrification began this week and will be completed by next summer.
