GB Railfreight has indicated that its first two Class 99s should arrive in the UK on or around June 16, following a successful testing period of 99001/002 at Velim in the Czech Republic.
Several GBRf drivers have been in Valencia, undergoing crew training on the new dual-mode Stadler Co-Co locomotives, of which an initial 30 are on order.
The ‘99s’ have been prepared for transfer by rail to Bremen in Germany. They will then ship to the UK to Avonmouth Port.
Unlike the Class 93s, which had to move by road to Worksop, GBRf says it already has route clearance in place with Network Rail. This means it can haul them from the docks to their new depot at Leicester by rail.
“Stadler’s Class 99s have successfully passed all necessary specified tests with flying colours. We are excited to see the first on tracks in the UK,” said GBRf.
