Channel Tunnel hopeful Gemini Trains partners with Uber

Prospective Channel Tunnel operator Gemini Trains has teamed up with Uber in a co-branding partnership.

The new partnership will see any new trains branded as Uber as well as offering passengers the opportunity to book tickets through the Uber app. Under the agreement, Gemini Trains will still be responsible for operating any train services. The deal is similar to Uber’s current partnership with the Thames Clipper in London, which it also brands.

Gemini Trains is intending to run services between London St Pancras, Paris and Brussels. It also plans stops at Ebbsfleet International, which current channel tunnel operator Eurostar stopped serving in 2019.

Adrian Quine, CEO, Gemini says: “Innovation and value are at the very heart of what we do so it’s exciting to be teaming up with Uber, an instantly recognisable global brand which has revolutionised the travel industry. Now passengers will be able to enjoy the same value and comfort on brand new ‘cutting edge’ trains at the touch of a button”.

Andrew Brem, General Manager, Uber UK added: “We’ve seen amazing momentum since we began launching new modes of transport in the UK, and this collaboration with Gemini Trains is our latest step in how we’re helping people get where they want to go.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to bring our brand to the iconic Channel Tunnel journey."

Gemini Trains is one of four applications in the running to operate services through the channel tunnel. Other applications include proposals from Virgin Trains, Trenitalia and Evolyn.
