Hitachi is to open the doors of its Newton Aycliffe factory for the first time as part of the Railway 200 celebrations.
The open day will be held on Saturday October 4 and feature factory tours, Locomotion No.1 replica and the Railway 200 Exhibition Train.
Tickets go on sale on Friday May 16 at 0900, costing £15 for adults and £5 for children. Under fives go free.
Nigel King, Head of UK Manufacturing & Delivery at Hitachi Rail said: "Our Railway 200 ‘Open Day’ is a chance for local communities, families, and rail enthusiasts to come together and celebrate 200 years of world-leading railway innovation. From Locomotion No.1 to cutting-edge Hitachi trains, the day will showcase just how deep rail runs in our region’s DNA."
Hitachi currently has orders from to build 14 bi-mode units for Lumo and nine tri-mode sets for Grand Central, all give carriages long.
Both are in partnership and financed by Angel Trains and due to enter service from 2027 and 2028 respectively.
