The government has revealed more details about the proposed Tempsford station.
In January, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the interchange station that will be built on both the East Coast Main Line and East West Rail (EWR).
Responding to a Commons question from Huntingdon MP Ben Obese-Jecty (Conservative) about forecast demand, Transport Minister Simon Lightwood said early work by Network Rail and East West Rail Co provisionally estimates between 500,000 and two million passenger journeys being made annually, making it a Category C station.
Fellow Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood answered another question from Obese- Jecty about projected cost.
She said the current cost estimate for Connection Stages 2/3 of EWR is £5 billion to £6bn, which includes the interchange station, adding: “The design of Tempsford station is not sufficiently advanced to give a robust cost estimate at this time.”
