Total Rail Solutions switches to HVO for its vehicles

Plant machinery supplier Total Rail Solutions (TRS) is to become the first in the rail sector to switch from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO).

HVO is produced from waste vegetable oils such as rapeseed and sunflower, and animal fats. It is 100% renewable, biodegradable and non-toxic, and can be used as a direct drop-in alternative to diesel fuel, requiring no modifications to vehicle engines.

“We have all seen the science and the G7 negotiations to reduce the use of fossil fuels and deliver on global climate change directives, and this significant step will benefit many,” said TRS Chief Executive Paul Bateman.

“The operational process to transfer is relatively straightforward, as the new HVO fuel can be mixed in the tank with any residual until the supply becomes pure, so there will be no disruption in supply or downtime on site.”

From this summer, all TRS’s vehicles for rail industry customers will be fuelled with HVO, supplied by Crown Oil.
