Five Type 5 freight locomotives from GB Railfreight and Cappagh starred on a Branch Line Society charter from Derby to Hove and back on August 3.

The ‘Cappagh Capital Campaigner’ set off behind GBRf’s 69008 Richard Howe and ran via Chaddesden Yard, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Kettering, Bedford, Bletchley and Watford Junction to Wembley Yard, where 60028 and 60055 Thomas Barnardo took over, running top-and-tail.

The ‘Cappagh Capital Campaigner’ set off behind GBRf’s 69008 Richard Howe and ran via Chaddesden Yard, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Kettering, Bedford, Bletchley and Watford Junction to Wembley Yard, where 60028 and 60055 Thomas Barnardo took over, running top-and-tail.

They then took the train to Chessington Stone Terminal via Kensington Olympia, Balham and Wimbledon.

After reversing, the train continued to Waterloo via Clapham Junction and then south to Hove via Brixton, Crystal Palace, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport and Preston Park.

After a break the 60s returned to Wembley via Haywards Heath and Kensington Olympia, where 56098/103 took over (working in multiple, with 69008 on the rear) to return the train to Leicester, Gospel Oak, Stevenage, Peterborough and Stamford. 69008 worked the final leg back to Derby.
