Bradford Forster Square’s Platform 0 opened on Monday May 19.
It means Forster Square will become a four-platform station, and its opening coincided with LNER increasing the number of Monday-Saturday services to and from King’s Cross from two to seven.
This includes a morning northbound service that arrives in the West Yorkshire city at 0952. Before, Bradford had two Up services in the morning which returned north in the evening, with the first not arriving until 1930.
Sunday services have doubled from one to two each way.
To mark the increased service and Bradford’s status as UK City of Culture 2025, LNER produced a unique version of its livery for one of its Azuma Class 801s (801224).
Volunteers and staff who cleaned up the station before Platform 0 was opened are now clearing an overgrown greenspace near Platform 1 to plant a community garden.
Grand Central currently runs four trains each way between King’s Cross and Bradford Interchange seven days a week. It hopes to increase this to six and add a fifth on Sundays.
