Bombardier Transportation & Women in Rail Work Experience Programme
Introduction into the rail sector with one of the world's largest train manufacturers Bombardier Transportation and national charity Women in Rail.
These opportunities are suitable for women at any stage of their career - whether you are a school leaver, recent graduate, experienced professional in another sector, looking for a career change or looking for a return to work after time out.
We are looking for motivated and ambitious women who would be interested in exploring a career in the rail sector. If accepted on to the programme you will receive tailored advice from industry professionals through Women in Rail on how to write a CV, developing job skills, job searching & interview technique. Women in Rail East Midlands will be hosting these workshops from 6-8th November 2019 for those who secure a place on the programme.
Bombardier have laid out specific structured placements which will last two weeks from 11th - 22nd November. Potential applicants may select between Production Operations or Procurement. Full details of the work programmes are below:

Work Placement
Department: Procurement
Location: Litchurch Lane, Derby
Purpose of the Placement
To learn about how Bombardier buy and manage the delivery of materials from the UK and abroad onto the site through spending a week with the commodity team and a week with the inventory team.
Activities within the Placement
To ensure candidates attending the work placement gain sufficient work experience, specific work stream areas have been identified:
- Commodity: work closely with your supplier through calls, managing the contract, and attending supplier quality meetings - Inventory: learn about how we ensure our material arrives safely on site and is tracked all the way from the supplier to the train. - Personal Development: Learn about the many roles available within Procurement. Interact with other functions, building your network and understanding and attend important meetings to gain a full insight into the end-to-end process of material management
As part of the placement will involve a site tour, please be prepared to wear the appropriate protective clothing which includes a bump cap, gloves, safety shoes and goggles.

To support and understand the role of the Operations team by working through the various stages of train build on our live projects. The candidates will also work with supporting functions such as Methods and Quality departments to gain an insight into the importance of cross- functional working and collaboration to produce our AVENTRA trains.
Activities within the Placement
To ensure candidates attending the work placement gain sufficient work experience, specific work stream areas have been identified:
- Production: How is a train built, what do the stages consist of and how is the process managed? - Personal Development: Learn about the many roles available within Operations. Interact with other functions, building your network and understanding and attend important meetings to gain a full insight into the end-to-end process of building our AVENTRA trains.
As part of the placement will involve working on the production line, please be prepared to wear the appropriate protective clothing, which includes a bump cap, gloves, safety shoes and goggles.
