As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).
So: Should the UK Government provide financial assistance to Eurostar?

Site Engineer - Permanent - Central London - Highways / Rail

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Engineer. My client, a well known contractor working within the highways and rail sector with a well deserved reputation of being involved in prestigious long term projects; are looking to appoint a Site Engineer to work on a number of highways and rail projects that they have secured.
Duties
As Site Engineer, you will report to a Project Manager, and will be responsible for;

Setting Out
Maintaining line & level control
Measurements & Calculations
Interpretation of technical drawings
Producing as-built and topographical surveys
Providing technical assistance to the project team where required
Coordinating the technical aspects of package handovers
QA where required
Checking the accuracy of sub-contractors work where required
Skills & Experience
Ideally you will be qualified to HNC level or above in an engineering or construction related subject, supported by 5+ years practical experience in the role of Site Engineer.
Specifically, you should have experience working on highways, rail structures or major civil engineering projects.
