Senior Structural Civil Engineer – Manchester – Rail & Infrastructure

My client is a multi-disciplinary solutions business that provides a full range of services, from consultancy, design and engineering through to manufacture, installation and on site project management. The business works in partnership with customers to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive solutions to meet individual requirements across a wide range of market sectors.

Role

• Lead, advise and direct teams of Engineers, Graduates and Technicians in producing surveys, designs, studies and reports for the required structural works on multi - disciplinary Engineering projects. It is expected that the candidate can carry out this work on moderate to complex schemes with limited assistance or supervision
• Production of outline structural design for multi-disciplinary projects. It is expected that the candidate can carry out this work on moderate to complex schemes and would only require limited assistance or supervision
• Lead the of revision of designs and drawings and other works undertaken by the team, providing feedback and coaching where necessary. It is expected that the candidate can carry out this work on moderate to complex schemes without assistance or supervision
• Liaising with internal teams, external clients and partners. It is expected that the candidate can carry out this work without supervision
• Budgetary and Programme Control of the structural teams work on individual projects. It is expected that the candidate can carry out this requirement without supervision

Description

• Heavy Industrial Projects including Energy for Waste (EFW) sites, Iron Ore Plants, Coal Washing Facilities

Works include:
o Steel framed superstructure. (Portal Frames, Trusses, Beam and Column design, including Composite Beams)
o Concrete Foundations and substructure
o Masonry Panels

• Railway Sector Projects include design of new and refurbishment of existing station buildings. Design of lineside structures, (e.g. cable support systems, Signal /Sign foundation systems,)

Works include:
o Steel framed superstructure. (Portal Frames, Trusses, Beam and Column design, including Composite Beams)
o Concrete Foundations and substructure, i.e. strip foundations, piled foundations, and raft foundations
o Masonry Design (Vertical and lateral design of masonry walls)
o Timber Design (Timber roof and floor design, Stud Partition design)
o Steel Foundation systems

The client works in partnership with external customers to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive solutions to meet their individual requirements across a wide range of market sectors. The client in addition to its Railway and Industrial sectors is now focusing on growth within the education and nuclear sectors.

The client will continue to secure new business development opportunities and further development of innovative products and services associated with major civil, structural and architectural led project.

Experience

• The Candidate should have an extensive knowledge of the Eurocodes (extensive knowledge of the equivalent BS is also required) for the main structural materials, i.e. Concrete, Steel, Masonry and Timber.
• The Candidate should have a background in Industrial projects and knowledge of Railway Standards and practises, although this is not essential
• The Candidate should have solid knowledge of the Building Regulations
• The Candidate should have a working knowledge of the CDM Regulations
• The Candidate should either be a Chartered or an Incorporated Civil/Structural Engineer or is aiming to become Chartered /Incorporated within the next year.
• The Candidate should have a minimum of 5 years post- graduate experience
