As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

A Global company of the railway industry, based in Jiangsu province, is now looking for a senior technical manager.
This is an amazing opportunity for a Rail specilaist to live and work in China, based fairly near to Shanghai.
The main task of the role is to provide specialist engineering & business management support & development for Asia/Pacific rail serivces to ensure company standards are maintained particualrly in regard to safety whilst, at the same time, providing support for developing & growing the rail business in all the companies rail business segments.
This includes, Engineering/Field Services, Service & Maintenance, Vehicle RAMS Engineering & Fleet Management Training.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of railway working practices and vehicle technology
Maintain an up to date knowledge equipment and systems knowledge in all business segments
Provide specialist RS engineering support for business development and initiatives in Asia Pacific, in particular to provide specialist technical support for the following Rail Services Activities
Vehicle Systems Modernisation Engineering and Project Management for Locations
Provide Project Management of Special Projects for Locations developing new Maintenance and Overhaul techniques
Development of new Regional Service Centres as required by business needs
Key Requirements:
Engineering Degree qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or suitable equivalent
Professional Engineering Qualification (Chartered Engineer in Mechanical/Electrical/ or equivalent)
10 years’ knowledge of Railways, rolling stock and railway operation
Experience of working in the Railway Rolling Stock equipment field
Experience of working in Maintenance and/or Overhaul Service Centres or depots
