As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

We are currently working with a leading engineering consultancy whom are looking to recruit for a Senior Rail Civil Design Engineer being based in the West Midland, specifically Birmingham, working on major projects within the Rail industry such as the East Coast Mainline and Transpennine Route Upgrade. As the Senior Rail Civil Engineer will report to the Civil Team leader in which you will have the opportunity to lead and direct teams of civil engineers, graduates and technicians involved in producing civil engineering designs and studies for a range of railway infrastructure projects.

Your task is to lead Civils teams to deliver projects, ensure commitments are met, monitoring team performance against programme and budget, in which you will also lead key design projects, ensuring client SLAs are achieved and within budget which includes monitoring project and team performance against contracts and project quality and making adjustments if required.

As mentioned, this position is based in Birmingham so could suit candidates in the West Midland area like Solihul or Derby.

Job Requirements

Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated
Experience or understanding the role of Client's Responsible Engineer.
A thorough understanding of Network Rail standards and processes.
Ideally 6 years of Railway Civils experience gained on projects such as stations, depots, ancillary structures or lineside Civils etc
Has designed and qualified civil engineering deliverables.
Experience in the use of Eurocodes
