As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

A major rail civil engineering consultancy in the Yorkshire area require a Senior Civil Rail Engineer.

This is a key position to work within the project team, to supervise and check the work of junior staff. You will be involved in the delivery of work to programme, budget and specification. Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances. Assist the Technical Director in training and development of staff.

Candidate requirements -

MEng, BEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering
CEng or IEng registration is desirable (or in the process of progressing towards Professional Review having completed development objectives, signed off by SCE), but additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu.
Experience of Safety in Design and Designers responsibilities under CDM
Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with clients and other design team members
Motivated, self-starter.
Good communication skills.
Good team builder and player.

Extensive post-graduate relevant experience of civil engineering design preferably on rail infrastructure projects although this is not essential.
Experience in working with Railway standards, Eurocodes, British Standards and have knowledge of the guidance available from industry research bodies such as CIRIA, Concrete Council etc.
Experienced in the design and specification of platforms, drainage, earthworks, underground tank structures, station building structures, foundations, detailing of reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, masonry and cladding.
Experienced in the scoping of and management of surveys and investigations.
Experience of running teams, leadership skills.
