Client: Ranking inside the top 10 MEP Contractors in London for the past 7 years, my client is often considered one of the capitals top building services contractors.
Operating across multiple sectors, my client has an annual turnover in excess of £200M and has been responsible for delivering some of the UKs most prestigious engineering projects. As a result of increased workflow within the rail division, including opportunities on HS2, the business is looking to employ a Project Engineer.
Role: Rail M&E Project Engineer £40,000 - £45,000 + Healthcare + Pension
Responsibilities:
* Validate all services including specification / plant & equipment schedules /drawings and fully understand all different schemes required by the Client
* Assist Snr Eng/CM in establishing that Client’s design is generally in compliance with project standards, specifications, regulations and By-Laws
* Once review is completed, generate questionnaire for estimating team with an aim to establish correct costs for each element of the schemes. These may also include defining exact requirement for design development of any element of the project
* Support Snr Eng/CM/PM in establishing clear requirement at handover meeting and subsequent discussions with tendering team. Verify Project Costs with some elements remaining as budget until procurement and design development stage is completed
* Establish if programme periods are achievable. Raise any issues where necessary with Project Team and planners
* Establish resource requirements. Communicate finding with Project Manager/ HR
* Prepare HQSE documentation in good time for construction phase
* Review the Project requirements in detail and fully understand all different systems and establish that all requirements are covered to meet with the client and contract requirements
* Generate technical queries to seek clarification of the project requirement
* Assist CM/PM/QS in procurement of packages in line with the clients QA/ Procurement procedures or specific project requirements (Technical Submittals etc.) and commence / monitor development of installation drawings. Ensure specific cost codes are used as stipulated at contract handover. Ensure all procurement is undertaken within the target costs of the CCS or if not possible ensure that the PM (where appointed) and QS is notified
* Have sufficient skill to make economic procurement that is fully compliant with specification / performance and can fit into space allocated. Make quality technical submittal packages for Client’s approval
* Raise any RFIs or TQs to the client for missing or insufficient design
* Develop programme for installation, commissioning and handover
* Work with the QA team to prepare Inspection and Test Plans at the start of the Construction Phase
* Attend progress meetings with Client and other trades and record meeting minutes
* Hold regular meetings with Sub-contractors
* Provide commercial information to assist the QS in production of variations/CE’s and the monthly application for payment
* Understand contract/ scope remit and ensure any potential change is identified and flagged up to PM (where appointed) and QS
* Only undertake change at written instruction from client or approval from Line Manager (Project Manager
The ideal candidate:
* Solid experience of the MEP construction industry
* Good experience of Rail (both NR and LUL)
* Practical knowledge of AutoCAD/AMTECH/NICEIC and Dialux software
* Sound knowledge of environmental and health & safety legislation, including railway industry standards
* Installation experience ‘on the tools’ to support a ‘sleeves rolled up’ position
