As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

Can you meet the challenge?

We are looking for an experienced individual to join our tram team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our Concessionaire South Yorkshire Supertram Limited’s (SYSL) engineering performance is monitored and reported, asset condition is monitored, maintenance plans are adhered to and engineering risks are managed.

You will assist the Tram Concession Manager in the operational and strategic delivery of Supertram asset management. Provide engineering expertise on all Supertram related matters including the provision of engineering input into tram major projects acting as project sponsor where required.

This role provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to take forward the implementation and management of a Strategic Asset Management Plan for the Supertram asset at an exciting time for the system. A key part of this role is engaging with stakeholders, to ensure that SYPTEs requirements around the management of the Supertram asset are met and appropriate asset investment decisions are taken.

If so, do you have the qualities?

The successful candidate will be professionally qualified with an HND or equivalent level of professional experience, along with a good working knowledge of light or heavy rail engineering, an understanding of safety management in rail, experience of asset planning along with previous experience of working within a similar environment. Additionally, you will need to have the following qualities:

* Be able to build positive working relationships

* Be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders

* Have good analytical and numeric skills

* Have financial and commercial awareness

* Have good literacy skills
