As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

Fawkes and Reece are assisting a reputable principle contractor in their search for a Health and Safety Manager to join their growing team working on a variety of rail, civil and build projects based out of their offices in Ashford, Kent.

Our client are a multi accredited, award-winning employer, and this role has become required due to the continued growth and success of the business. They deliver projects from inception through to handover, so this is a great opportunity to gain experience on a variety of projects, gaining knowledge and skills every step of the way.

Reporting to the Compliance, Safety & Assurance Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of Health and Safety arrangements to enable the company to successfully undertake its operations.

Your role will encompass the full matrix of duties, with a key one being able to advise the Company on health and safety and environmental legislation issues, to review amendments to legislation and client standards to assess the relevance to the company, making appropriate recommendations.

There will be the occasional need to travel to/from sites nationwide, so a driver’s licence is all but essential and you will possess a NEBOSH Construction certificate. Ideally you will have experience on Civil, Rail and Build projects and come from a contractor background.
