Head of Engineering

The Role:
As Head of Engineering you will lead and be responsible for delivery of the engineering activities and engineering assurance of our solutions, driving efficient, effective, and safe delivery in accordance with the Contract and our Architectural strategy, to agreed timescales, quality, and budget.

You will be accountable for promoting and ensuring safe working practices and play a vital role in developing the technical excellence, assurance and quality required to deliver high integrity systems and drive our ongoing success through continuous improvement

The company is a technology business specialising in providing mission-critical control systems, traffic management systems and data science-led solutions, primarily in the transport industry.

Key objectives:

Clearly articulate the design approach, and support the development of, strategies/policies to:
Safely deliver agreed design, hardware and assurance outcomes to quality, budget and time
Manage internal and external changes controlling project risks and supporting our overall business objectives
Monitor/control schedule and cost efficiency
Ensure all design works meet standards for safety and system integrity through a project wide engineering assurance approach
Actively support the delivery and implementation of process improvements
Maintain output-based measurements and agile Team based approaches
Focus on value added tasks and eliminate non value-added tasks
To ensure that we develop individuals and maintain appropriate competencies to support the Company's vision and growth ambitions:
Line Management and Development of Team Leaders
Develop and maintain appropriate task/competency matrices and resource capability
Implement the company personal development process and identify training/development needs
Promote team working, active collaboration and involvement in improvement initiatives
To ensure that the engineering teams works efficiently with the other Directorates and that the interfaces are understood and managed proactively.Person requirements:

Educated to Degree level or equivalent
Demonstrable track record of successful leadership alongside day-to-day management capability
A broad understanding of data systems and electromechanical design covering the full product lifecycles through to and including deployment on site
Ability to think beyond current practices and drive change to support new ideas, improvements and working practices
Excellent communicator in writing, and verbally in individual and group discussions
