As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

Assistant / Graduate Quantity Surveyor required for a Civil Engineering & Rail Contractor in West Sussex

The client requires an Assistant / Graduate Quantity Surveyor who has the competence of using their bidding and project control skills to help the company with Civils projects within Rail including Platform Reconstruction, Platform extensions, Cabling, Bridge repairs and more. Inside the role you will be involved in both high cost and low-cost projects. The successful Quantity Surveyor will focus on:

Ensure precise records of site activities undertaken and events are sustained and organised for easy reference.
Cash forecasting and monitoring on a weekly basis.
Weekly review of programme and site records and examination of variances from planned.
Forecasting and Monthly Cost/Value Reporting.
Assist estimating and operations with emerging bid submissions.
Analyse and commercially assess client contract documents and advise on risk and opportunity.

Desirable
- Structured career history
- Degree qualified or equivalent
- At least 6 – 12 months’ experience in infrastructure projects in Rail
