As lockdown restrictions ease and we start to consider travelling again, the future of cross-Channel operator Eurostar remains uncertain.
Eurostar is seeking financial support from the UK Government, citing higher access charges here as a reason.
The French Government has pledged to provide support for the operator, while £200 million has been provided by one of its shareholders, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Hermes Infrastructure.
Registered in the UK and supporting 3,000 jobs either with the business or in the supply chain, the company is, however, 55% owned by SNCF (French state rail), 40% by CDPQ/Hermes and 5% by SNCB (Belgian state railways).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects for clients, including overseas projects.

What you'll be doing:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Engineer, in our site development team, with excellent design, technical and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively within multi-professional design teams.
This role is to be based within the Site Development team but with a bias towards development of rail slab track and track bed projects.
You will assist in the production of calculations drawings, specifications and reports to support the project team.
You will have demonstrable previous experience in the field of civil infrastructure and in particular concrete materials and geotechnics.
You will have knowledge of materials, construction of general civils infrastructure and a working knowledge of UK and internally recognised standards.
You will be committed to your own professional development, proactively developing towards obtaining an appropriate professional qualification and be looking for challenging work to develop your engineering skills.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

A MEng degree in Civil Engineering and experience in design in accordance with the DMRB and SHW or Network Rail Standards.
Be a member of an appropriate institution.
Exposure to the detailed design of site infrastructure, including pavements highways, rail civils, geometry, surface and sub-surface drainage.
Good communication skills in written and spoken English and confidence in presenting your design to others.
Good people management skills
Competence in an AutoCAD or Microstation environment.
Ability to communicate technical issues to professionals and clients.
Success of working in a team environment.
Able to take responsibility for own work (of different scales and types) and that of junior/apprentice engineers and technicians. Includes the ability to oversee submission of work and balance your own workload against project requirements.
Able to check your own work and that of others to satisfy quality assurance requirements.
Ability and familiarity in the use of Microsoft Office.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to work on multiple projects.
